Minor Procedures
Minor Procedures
At Mambourin Doctors, our GPs are experienced in performing a range of minor procedures in-clinic. Having these services available at your local GP practice means faster access to care, without the wait or cost of a specialist referral for many straightforward concerns.
What Are Minor Procedures?
Minor procedures are small, clinical treatments or interventions that can be performed safely in a general practice setting. They are typically brief, performed under local anaesthetic where needed, and most patients are able to return to normal activities shortly after.
If your GP identifies a concern during a consultation or health check, they may recommend a minor procedure as part of your treatment plan.
Procedures We Perform
Skin Lesion Removal
Removal of benign or suspicious skin lesions including moles, cysts, lipomas, and other growths. Removed tissue may be sent to pathology for further analysis where clinically indicated.
Excisions
Surgical excision of skin lesions or areas of concern identified during a skin check or consultation. Your GP will explain the procedure, expected recovery, and any aftercare requirements before proceeding.
Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy uses liquid nitrogen to freeze and treat certain benign skin lesions such as warts, sunspots, and seborrhoeic keratoses. It is a quick in-clinic treatment with minimal downtime.
Skin Biopsies
Where a lesion or skin concern requires further investigation, your GP may perform a biopsy to collect a small tissue sample for pathology review. Results are discussed at a follow-up appointment.
Wound Care & Dressings
Assessment, cleaning, and dressing of minor cuts, lacerations, and post-procedure wounds. Our team can also assist with suture removal following procedures performed here or elsewhere.
Ingrown Toenail Treatment
Assessment and management of ingrown toenails, including minor procedural treatment where appropriate.
Ear Syringing & Ear Wax Removal
Removal of ear wax build-up that may be causing discomfort, reduced hearing, or other ear-related symptoms. Your GP will assess your ears before recommending the most appropriate removal method.
Injections & Infusions
Our GPs can administer certain therapeutic injections as part of an ongoing treatment or management plan. Your GP will advise whether this is appropriate for your individual circumstances.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your GP will walk you through the procedure clearly before starting. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and understand exactly what is involved before anything proceeds.
Most minor procedures involve:
- A brief assessment of the area to be treated
- Local anaesthetic where required to minimise discomfort
- The procedure itself, which is typically short in duration
- A dressing or wound care applied as needed
- Clear aftercare instructions to take home
- A follow-up appointment if pathology results are pending or suture removal is required
Do I Need a Referral?
No referral is needed to see a GP at Mambourin Doctors. Simply book an appointment and let our reception team know the nature of your concern so we can allocate the appropriate appointment type and time.
For some procedures, your GP may need to assess you at an initial consultation before scheduling a dedicated procedure appointment.
