Immunisation & Vaccinations

Immunisation

Vaccinations are one of the most effective ways to protect yourself, your children, and your community from serious and preventable diseases.

At Mambourin Doctors, we provide a full range of immunisation services for patients of all ages, from newborns to seniors.

Why Vaccinations Matter?

Vaccines work by preparing your immune system to recognise and fight specific diseases. Staying up to date with recommended vaccinations helps protect not only you but also the people around you who may not be able to receive certain vaccines themselves, including newborns, pregnant women, and those with certain medical conditions.

Australia has a strong national immunisation program, and our team is here to make sure you and your family are covered.

Vaccinations We Provide

Childhood Immunisations

We follow the Australian National Immunisation Program (NIP) schedule for children, providing all routine childhood vaccinations from birth through to adolescence. Keeping your child’s vaccinations up to date is an important part of their ongoing health care.

Adult Vaccinations

Immunity from some childhood vaccines can wear off over time. Our GPs can review your vaccination history and recommend any boosters or catch-up vaccines that may be appropriate for your age and health status.

Influenza (Flu) Vaccine

The flu vaccine is recommended annually for everyone aged six months and over. It is particularly important for young children, older Australians, pregnant women, and people with chronic health conditions. The flu vaccine is free under the National Immunisation Program for eligible patients.

COVID-19 Vaccinations

We provide COVID-19 vaccinations in line with current Australian Government recommendations. Please contact our clinic for information on current availability and eligibility

Pregnancy Vaccinations

Certain vaccines are recommended during pregnancy to help protect both mother and baby. These include the whooping cough (pertussis) vaccine and the flu vaccine. Our GPs can advise on the appropriate timing and options during your antenatal care.

Travel Vaccinations

Planning a trip overseas? Some destinations require or recommend specific vaccinations. We recommend booking a travel health consultation at least six to eight weeks before departure to allow time for any required vaccines to take effect.

Catch-Up Vaccinations

If you or your child has missed vaccinations on the recommended schedule, it is not too late. Our GPs can review your immunisation history and arrange a catch-up program where appropriate.

School-Based & Adolescent Vaccinations

Vaccinations recommended for adolescents, including the HPV vaccine and meningococcal vaccine, are part of the National Immunisation Program. Our GPs can advise on the full schedule and arrange these vaccinations for your teenager.

How Do I Know Which Vaccines I Need?

Your GP is the best person to advise you on which vaccinations are appropriate for your age, health status, lifestyle, and travel plans. You can check your immunisation history through the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR), which your GP can access during your appointment.

What to Expect at Your Vaccination Appointment

Vaccination appointments at Mambourin Doctors are straightforward and efficient. Your GP or nurse will:

  • Review your immunisation history and current health status
  • Confirm which vaccine or vaccines are due
  • Administer the vaccination and record it on the Australian Immunisation
    Register
  • Ask you to remain at the clinic briefly after the injection as a precaution
  • Discuss any potential side effects and what to do if they occur

Most vaccination appointments are quick, but please allow a little extra time if you are bringing children or having multiple vaccinations at once.
